Are Australia's University Towns a Good Place to Live?

Australia standsout as one of the most alluring countries to study abroad, providing students with a top-notch education in beautiful settings. Seven of its cities were placed in the top 50 in the QS Best Student Cities 2021.

Two of Australia'sseven entries hold spots in the top five of the overall ranking, and the best student cities in Australia score very well on measures for student mix, desirability, and employer activity. Australian cities frequently struggle with affordability, like the US and the UK, but it's worth the price for many students.

Here are the topseven student cities in Australia, each of which offers at least two highlyregarded universities and a distinctive study abroad opportunity.

1. Melbourne

Only Paris hassurpassed Melbourne in this year's rating of the Best Student Cities, and it's easy to understand why. Melbourne, regarded as Australia's cultural centre, is bursting at the seams with activities, especially if you enjoy watching live comedy, music, or sporting events. Seven of the city's institutions are included in worldwide rankings. Melbourne receives the highest score in the whole index for "student mix," with intercultural interaction being cited as one of the finest aspects of student life there. The city also receives a high rating for "desirability" thanks to its stunning beaches and excellent standard of life (Melbourne is now ranked the world's most liveable city by The Economist).

2. Sydney

Immediately followingAustralia's economic and financial centre, Melbourne is bigger than Sydney and
ranked fourth on the list of the Best Student Cities. Sydney comes #1 in the overall index for "desirability" despite not taking the top place on our list of the best cities in Australia for students. This is due to a
successful combination of high quality of life and a paradisiacal mix of beaches and open areas. Because a quarter of the students at the city's five highly regarded international institutions are foreign, it also receives high
marks for "student mix." The city is home to several of Australia's most prestigious institutions, two of which are ranked among the top 50 in the QS World University Rankings® 2020/21, in addition to providing a pleasurable
student experience.

3. Canberra

The capital of Australia, Canberra, moved up four spots this year to land in 17th position in the list of the Best Student Cities. Canberra is admirably in the “student mix category," indicating its sizable and ethnically diversified student population, like all of the Australian entrants. It's hardly unexpected that
the city has drawn in students from all over the world, given that it is home to Australian National Institution, the top-ranked university in Australia (jointly rated 19th in the QS World University Rankings®).

4. Brisbane

Another of thisyear's rising stars, Brisbane, climbs up five spots to tie for 18th place with Auckland on our list of the best cities in Australia for students. Brisbane, a well-liked city with three significant colleges and a substantial student population, is known for its friendliness. However, this emerging metropolis is more than simply a student bubble; it is also a popular tourist destination and has the biggest economy between Sydney and Singapore.

5. Adelaide

Adelaide, thefifth-largest city in Australia, is placed 26th on the list of the Best Student Cities. It is recognized for its magnificent wide boulevards, open areas, parklands, and easily navigable city centre. It is situated on the south coast. The University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, and Flinders University are three institutions with Adelaide campuses listed in the QS World University Rankings® 2020/21, all of which are within the top 550 universities worldwide. Adelaide receives its highest rating in the "student mix" area with a sizable and diversified student body.

6. Perth

The second greatestcity for students in Australia is also the most remote since it lies on the western coast, more than 2,000 miles from major cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Perth, which received good marks for "desirability" and "student mix" and is rated 36th in the list of the Best Student Cities, is another enticing city to call home. Perth boasts an ideal climate and access to some of the most beautiful beaches and parkland you'll ever see. It also offers all the cultural, gastronomic, and recreational activities you would expect of a state capital with a population of over 2 million. 7. Gold Coast

The last of ourgreatest student cities in Australia is a brand-new addition that you might not be familiar with, but it shouldn't be disregarded. South of Brisbane in Queensland, Gold Coast is ranked 69th on the list of the Best Student Cities. It offers 300 days of sunshine a year, 52 kilometres of golden sand, and a neighbourhood called "Surfer's Paradise." It's no surprise that Gold Coast obtains the top score in the 'desirability' category of the QS Best Student Cities ranking because surfers and other beach lovers feel completely at home.
